Moreover, we’re being prodded into this morally bankrupt position knowing full well that the ruling classes in America, and the rest of the world, will do okay for themselves even if the rest of us starve to death. Our willingness to tolerate that brutality only buys us a little time. We’re not even selling out our Saudi brothers and sisters for anything lasting or substantive. The proper answer, both morally and pragmatically, is to support democratic revolutions in the Middle East and North Africa, and to start one here."
